The Skinny on “Injectables”

“Injectable” Weight Loss Medications:

Prescription weight loss medications are all the rage right now, particularly the “injectables.” This trend is due in part to celebrities who have easy access to these medications and have made them household names. But, do they really work? The simple answer is yes! The more complicated answer is Yes, but you also need to eat a well balanced diet, engage in an exercise routine, have stable mental health, and great sleep hygiene.

So, what are these “Injectables” and how do they work?

Two such medications are Tirzepatide (active ingredient in Mounjaro™ and Zepbound™) and Semaglutide (active ingredient in Wegovy™). These medications work by helping to stimulate insulin production, decrease glucose levels in your bloodstream, slow stomach emptying and tell your brain you are full, ultimately leading to weight loss.

How much weight can I lose?

Studies have shown very optimistic results, hence the popularity of these medications as tools for treating obesity. In a 68 week study individuals taking Semaglutide lost, on average 15% of their bodyweight. Another study showed that individuals taking Tirzepatide lost an average 17% of their body weight after 72 weeks.
